Every 30gb Microsoft Zune In the World Freezes
As of today all 30gb Zune became a brick and stopped working. Dubbed “Z2k9” (Zune 2009), Microsoft has acknowledged the situation but their web site main pages (Microsoft.net, Zune.net) make no mention of it, but the following does appear on a Zune service page:
Customers using the Zune 30 might experience problems starting their players. We’re aware of the problem and are working to correct it. The Zune Social might be slow or inaccessible. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience!
Windows reboots to prevent crashes, Xbox red ring, and Zune bricks. What will it take for people to realize that Microsoft does not produce reliable products? VMS, Unix, Linux, Novell - these systems can run for years without a failure. I’m new to the Apple universe, but the ease of my macbook, the reliability of iPods, and OS X being based on Unix gives me faith it is.
You are aware that this belief you must reboot a system every month or so to keep it from crashing is a Microsoft creation right?

UPDATE: Microsoft has responded saying that it is a date bug triggered because today is the 366th day of the year (leap year). The devices will start working again after Jan 1st with a reset.
So sorry for the loss of your device for a day every 4 years, but we’ve never heard of this thing called a leap day. Microsoft is now hard at work and will have the calendar changed shortly (because we can).
Oh and happy new year
